In the January transfer window, Wolves pushed ahead with a move to sign talented young midfielder Manu Silva.

The 23-year-old was then at Vitória de Guimarães and at one point the Portuguese press was convinced that he would move to Wolves until he decided to plump for Benfica due to the lure of Champions League football.

He made his third league appearance for the Portuguese giants when they took on Moreirense at the weekend and was taken off in the 37th minute due to an injury.

A Bola have reported that the ‘worst case scenario’ has now been confirmed for the ex-Wolves target.

They spoke to Artur Pereira de Castro, a specialist in sports medicine and responded to reports Manu Silva has picked up an ACL injury in his left knee. De Castro explained the likelihood now is that the midfielder will return to action only in the 2025/26 season and is unlikely to be available for Benfica’s pre-season training.

It’s a huge and unfortunate blow for the youngster, who was just rising to prominence following the Wolves attempts and his big chance at Benfica.
