Scott McTominay’s Manchester United future hangs in the balance. While his exit could help United gain more funds for potential signings, the Scotsman doesn’t seem close to a departure.
Fulham made attempts to sign the midfielder but they couldn’t make much progress on the financials of a deal.
Napoli have now been dragged into the picture.
Gianluca di Marzio eported late last night that the former Serie A champions had failed in a loan move for McTominay.
Corriere dello Sport today have an update of sorts, stating McTominay interests Napoli after they failed to sign Marco Brescianini.
It is mentioned that Manchester United have a rather high asking price for a player whose contract runs out in the summer of 2025. They want €30m to sell McTominay and despite that, club sporting director Giovanni Manna ‘will be talking’ to the Red Devils about a potential move.
Interestingly, Manna has been in London since yesterday to potentially unlock several deals involving Premier League clubs.
Napoli’s desire to sign McTominay on loan feels unlikely to succeed, and it’s stated he’d have to sign a new contract at Old Trafford for that to happen anyway.
They almost certainly wouldn’t be able to pay €30m for the midfielder on a permanent deal, so it’s hard to see him ending up at the Serie A club.
