On Tuesday, journalist Gianluigi Longari claimed AS Roma’s Angelino is on Sunderland’s shortlist for potential left-back options.

This emerged hours after Crystal Palace and Bournemouth drew links with the Spaniard, who was close to joining Al Hilal some weeks ago before a transfer fell through.

Corriere dello Sport today report the full-back’s sale to the Middle East club would have seen Roma earn €25m. Even if Sunderland will struggle to offer an amount as high as that, it could be enough to potentially close a deal.

No offers are on the table yet but Corriere dello Sport believe Florent Ghisolfi, who is joining the Black Cats after an abrupt exit from the Italian giants, could be a key factor in the move.

Angelino’s intentions about a move to Sunderland are yet to be ascertained but the feeling is that it is all about the money. If Sunderland offer a decent economic package, the ex-Manchester City player will be lured to the Stadium of Light.

More hope for Regis Le Bris’ side is offered by the newspaper, who believe that new Roma sporting director Ricky Massara is in a hurry to sort out the 28-year-old’s future.

The Giallorossi are ‘hunting’ for capital gains in the market and Massara wants to firm up Sunderland interest and push it along.
