Andreas Weimann joined Derby County on a free transfer last summer.

At the start of the season, the Austria international said he hoped to make it to the World Cup later this year. He also talked about the importance for regular minutes under John Eustace this season to make it to World Cup.

Weimann has made five starts in the Championship so far. The 34-year-old has an opportunity to return to SK Rapid Wien, according to Kurier.

He spent two years at their academy between 2005 and 2007. Weimann left the Austrian club for Aston Villa in 2007 and has been in the UK since then.

Rapid Wien want to bring him back to the club on deadline day and have already made contact. This is now confirmed by their sporting director, Markus Katzer, to Kurier.

“Andi Weimann is an interesting player we are considering. He has repeatedly proven his qualities in England. There’s not much more to say about him,” he said.

Kurier state: ‘A transfer to Rapid Vienna could also make sense for Weimann himself. The veteran wants to fulfil his dream of participating in the World Cup next summer. Rangnick values the versatile Viennese player as a reliable squad member. However, like all World Cup hopefuls, he needs playing time.’

Sky Sport in Austria relay Kurier’s claim and then share their own take on the possibility of him leaving Derby County.

He has less than six months left on his contract at the Pride Park Stadium. This means the Rams can now cash in from his sale after Rapid Wien made a rapid approach.

According to Sky, Derby County have rejected Rapid Wein’s late approach for Weimann and blocked his exit. As things stand, the Rams are unwilling to let him leave on deadline day.
