Ajax director of football Marc Overmars has laughed off suggestions they could sign Siem de Jong on the cheap. De Jong is currently on loan with PSV from Newcastle United, but was linked with Ajax in the summer before he moved to their rivals.
Voetbal International have reported on comments Overmars made during Ajax’s recent AGM with regards to De Jong. It has been suggested Ajax could get a discount because of the situation with Newcastle United goalkeeper Tim Krul’s loan move to the Dutch giants. However, Overmars said he doesn’t believe the Premier League side would be so generous, whether there’s goodwill over Krul or not.
“If Newcastle see me coming, I don’t think they will offer a discount for Siem de Jong,” said the former Arsenal winger.
Krul joined Ajax on a season long loan deal at the end of the transfer window, but he’s still waiting to make his competitive debut for the club due to injury. Thankfully the Newcastle United loanee looks to be on the verge of returning after playing in a friendly last week.
