Arsenal’s Albert Sambi Lokonga has been out on loan at three clubs since January 2023.
After temporary spells in England at Crystal Palace and Luton Town, Arsenal let him join Sevilla on a loan deal in the summer window.
The midfielder was forced to spend more than a month on the sidelines due to hamstring problems.
Sevilla have an option to make his stay permanent next summer. There’s optimism at the Andalusian club that the 25-year-old could do well for them this season. That’s at least what Vamos Mi Sevilla FC are suggesting when discussing their long-term plans for him.
At the end of this season, the Belgium international will have a year left on his contract at Arsenal.
The La Liga side, led by the sporting director Victor Orta, plan to ‘take advantage’ of his contract situation at Arsenal. It’s claimed they want to send a ‘lower offer’ to the Gunners, without mentioning any figures.
The report adds Lokonga pushing for a permanent transfer ‘will be key’ for Sevilla to be successful with their plan. This would only be possible if the Arsenal man were to shine in Spain this season.
As ever, sending players on loan to Sevilla and expecting the club to have any intention of sticking to agreed fees etc is an exercise in naivety.
