The technical director of AZ has spoken about his regret that his star forward Vincent Janssen has finally signed for Tottenham Hotspur. The Holland international today joined the Premier League side for £17m
Speaking to Voetbal International, Max Huiberts believes Tottenham took advantage by getting their hands on Janssen as AZ aren’t in a position to challenge for honours.
Huiberts said clubs keeping hold of key players is now an issue in the Netherlands, and he subsequently thinks Dutch sides need to fight more to keep hold of their upcoming talent.
“Tottenham knew AZ is not achieving much. It does not help if you let your best players leave. We can’t let big football countries trump us. We should not make ourselves a small football country,” said the AZ director.
Tottenham today announced that Janssen has signed up with the, after weeks of talks between AZ and the North London side.
The forward was the top scorer in the Netherlands last season with 27 goals, and the Dutchman’s performances led to international recognition.
