West Ham United, look away. Julen Lopetegui is having a great time with Qatar, and the Spanish press want you to know about it.
Well, AS do anyway. They aim their knives at West Ham today while celebrating Lopetegui qualifying for the World Cup with Qatar.
They explain that after Lopetegui ‘left West Ham through the back door’, things have gone very well for him.
While the Hammers are ‘in much worse shape’ without him, something that also happened when he left Sevilla, Lopetegui’s career is ‘very much alive’.
So alive, in fact, that in just a few months he’s taken a Qatar team ‘in ruins’ and led them to the second World Cup in their history. It’s the first time they’ve qualified ‘based on merit’ and not by being the host.
Their win against the United Arab Emirates secured qualification this week. He’s transformed a team that was ‘dead’ to one heading to the biggest stage. Lopetegui is the architect of their success, and they want him praised.
They also want West Ham to know about it. As far as they’re concerned, the Hammers made an obvious mistake getting rid of the Spaniard.
