At the weekend, Belgian newspaper Gazet van Antwerpen stated Anderlecht are dreaming about signing Manchester United’s Christian Eriksen this summer.

It was also reported the Red Devils could be willing to part ways with the 32-year-old, who has 12 months left on his deal.

On Sunday, the Jupiler Pro League side secured a 1-0 win over Sint-Truidense VV in the first game of the new season. After the tie, Anderlecht manager Brian Riemer was asked about the claims of interest in the Manchester United player, and his quotes are relayed by Tipsbladet.

“We are always looking for good players. Connections can help with this. Last year nobody expected Thorgan Hazard to be here until it happened on the last day. Just like with Kasper Schmeichel. Doors open and close quickly,” he said.

The Denmark international joined Manchester United on a free transfer in 2022, after a short spell at Brentford. He knows Riemer from their time with the Bees as the current Anderlecht manager was Thomas Frank’s assistant.

Tipsbladet then provide their own take on the Belgian club’s interest in Eriksen. They have found out that Anderlecht are keen on signing the midfielder, but add that it will be ‘very difficult’ to ‘lure’ him to Belgium in this window.

Erik ten Hag didn’t use Eriksen regularly last season as he clocked in 1,432 minutes from 28 games in all competitions.
