Jhon Arias spent four years at Fluminense and left them for Wolverhampton Wanderers in July.
The Colombia international has played eight games for Wolves and is yet to manage a goal or an assist. This didn’t impact his place in the national team for the World Cup qualifiers in September.
La Tricolor manager Néstor Lorenzo has left the Wolves player out of his squad for the upcoming friendlies against Mexico and Canada.
According to El País, the 28-year-old doesn’t have ‘any injury or significant commitment to the team’ that prevents him from representing his country.
The outlet also relay an update from by journalist Pipe Sierra on the attacking midfielder’s absence for the next international break.
According to the journalist, the Wolves signing wasn’t told in advance, surprising the player in the process.
“They didn’t tell him anything. In other words, Jhon Arias was surprised not to be called up today. I don’t know if you’re aware of Jhon Arias’ absence. What they’re telling me at the federation is that they’re thinking about his development as a Wolves player,” he said.
“I think these things should be discussed with the player. If this is the explanation, why doesn’t it apply to Yerson Mosquera, who plays for the same team and hasn’t been getting playing time?”
The outlet say national team officials would prefer Arias continue his development with Vítor Pereira’s side. That’s entirely understandable, but it’s odd if they’ve not told him.
Arias has been a regular for Colombia since the start of 2024.
