“Didn’t make me happy” – Player reveals Chelsea didn’t use him properly, feels ‘good’ after Blues exit

One of the more unsurprising exits from Stamford Bridge this summer was the sale of Chelsea’s Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

The midfielder wasn’t always used properly at his now former club, and the move to AC Milan has done him the world of good, where he is already showing his full ability under Stefano Pioli.

The player has since spoken to DAZN, relayed by ITA Sport Press, about his exit from Chelsea, and explained one of the reasons why he decided to leave.

The main one, it seems, was that the managers in charge of the Blues didn’t fully trust him going forward, and preferred to set him up in a more defensive role.

He said: “For me, it wasn’t a natural thing. I always liked having the ball at my feet, having the freedom to create, to be decisive between midfield and attack. In the last two seasons, I wasn’t able to do that. That way of playing didn’t make me happy, but now I play in a position where I have more freedom, so I feel good.”

This is something Pioli is heavily relying on, wanting the former Chelsea midfielder to be ‘physically dominant’ in the middle of the pitch.

He seems happy away from Stamford Bridge, and while there is little regret from the Blues about letting him go, since it allowed Todd Boehly to sign even more players, there will always be a feeling of what could have been had Loftus-Cheek been used properly.
