Despite the unexpected news today claiming Wolverhampton Wanderers’ deal for João Gomes could be off, the latest updates show the Molineux side still seem to have an advantage in the race.

It all started with journalist Venê Casagrande explaining that Flamengo still haven’t signed off the midfielder’s sale to the English side, as they now received a better bid from Lyon for his transfer.

Even though there had been no details of how much more the French club were putting on the table, the reporter is now back with all numbers involved.

It’s now said Wolves’ offer had been of €17m, to be paid in five instalments. Meanwhile, Lyon placed a bid worth €18m.

The advantage for the Molineux side is that João Gomes himself claimed he ‘wants to keep his word’ and complete the move to the Premier League club.

Flamengo chief Rodolfo Landim, however, is still to make that sale official, and ‘has not yet signed’ the deal.

It turns out UOL features a similar story, this time claiming Lyon’s offer is for €17m plus €2m in bonuses. It’s said the French side also offer better salary conditions. Still, the midfielder continues to prefer the move to Wolves, where he could feature in the Premier League.

It’s said the Molineux side already sent the contracts a few days ago, and with no response from Flamengo, they expected that another club had joined the tussle.

The coming hours should then be crucial for this deal, and judging by the little difference in the offers, it would be no surprise if the player’s wish prevails.
