Earlier on Wednesday, we covered a story from Fotboll Direkt in Sweden about the transfer of Lucas Bergvall to Tottenham and how two other Premier League clubs made a last ditch attempt to try and lure him away from Spurs.
That didn’t work out, but that same report also has some interesting details about how much the London club paid for the player and his expected salary once he makes the move at the end of the season.
As a quick recap, it appeared to be a two-way battle for Bergvall between Tottenham and Barcelona in the dying days of the transfer window, but a deal was never going to take place before deadline day, as he needed to be 18 years of age to sign a five-year contract.
His birthday was on February 2nd, the day after, which is why the move was completed then, and he will be moving to England on a nice wage for a young player.
Fotboll Direkt explain that they were initially told Bergvall would be earning around SEK15m per year at Tottenham, but that appears to have gone up.
He will be on closer to SEK18m per year, which is the equivalent of €33k/week, and, with bonuses, that could reach SEK20m/year.
Some might feel that is rather a lot for a player who has yet to prove himself outside the Allsvenskan, but it also shows how much faith the Premier League club have in him going forward.
It’s hinted that the battle between Barcelona and Tottenham for Bergvall was the reason behind this increase, but that’s something only Spurs, the player and his agents are privy to for the time being.
