This morning, Portuguese newspaper Record had a story reporting Manchester United’s interest in Sporting youngster Nuno Mendes.

It was said the Red Devils have been ‘keeping an eye’ on the 17-year-old, and could intensify contacts for his signing soon.

Later on, Record published a video on their website with journalist Ricardo Granada explaining a little more about the chase from the Premier League side.

First thing to know is that Nuno Mendes shares the same agent as Bruno Fernandes. That’s why the fullback was a topic while Manchester United negotiated for the midfielder.

Record says those were only preliminary conversations, and the Red Devils kept good references about the youngster.

It’s said that more recently, the talks for Mendes returned. That’s why Sporting president Frederico Varandas confirmed approaches for the player.

Record claims that with the Coronavirus break, it’s unlikely that anything will happen soon. But things could have see developments ‘in a few months’.

Meanwhile, Mendes works to have his competitive debut for Sporting.
