Brentford have paid €1m to sign Kevin Schade on loan from Freiburg until the end of the season, with a permanent fee set at €25m.
That’s according to Kicker, who cover the player’s move to the Premier League today after Brentford announced his signing.
They say that the Bees have secured the forward after ‘months of courting’ him after initially trying to sign him in the summer transfer window.
They made an unsuccessful bid in that window, offering a deal worth €20m plus bonuses and a share in any future sale price. That was rejected by the German club but Brentford ‘did not let up’ after that rejection.
Instead, they have returned this month and are paying €1m to secure the player on loan until the end of the season. The deal also includes an obligation to buy for €25m that is linked to ‘very low-threshold conditions’.
In other words, it is almost certain that Brentford will be paying that figure to secure Schade on a permanent basis at the end of the season.
That is not the last money that Freiburg can ‘look forward to’ as part of the deal, though, as it also includes ‘success-dependent bonuses’ and a ‘resale participation’ that can increase the figure in future.
All in all, the deal is seen as a ‘remarkable’ on for the German side, who appear to have set themselves up for a windfall in the summer and even more money down the line if Schade proves to be a success at Brentford.
