Handed the opportunity of a lifetime by being sent to Fiorentina on loan for the season, Kevin Mirallas was ready to grab the opportunity with both hands, and he did his best to do so.
Unfortunately for the Everton forward, Stefano Pioli also brought in Marko Pjaca on loan from Juventus and prioritised playing the Croatian regardless of the level of his performances.
Then came the change of management, which worked in Mirallas’ favour, as Vincenzo Montella has leaned on the Belgium international more, starting him in three of the last four games of the season.
However, Corriere dello Sport explain that, while this might have given the 31-year-old hope, Fiorentina remain unlikely to make the move permanent, which would have seen the Everton loanee sign a four-year deal.
The combination of his age and the €8m fee make him an unwise investment for a club like Fiorentina, and the Italian newspaper state it might simply be ‘too late’ for Mirallas to change anyone’s mind in Florence.
