River Plate are determined to hold talks with Newcastle United over Miguel Almirón to try and make a deal happen in January, wanting to sign the player ‘no matter what’ happens.

That’s according to Soy del Millo, who cover the situation today and say the Argentine side are not giving up on their dream transfer.

According to them, Marcelo Gallardo’s side are now focused on the transfer market and one of their dream signings would be Almirón from Newcastle.

He’s known to be a River fan and has made that public on more than one occasion, but River have never had the money to make a deal happen. That’s now changed and so they are pushing Newcastle to try and negotiate.

Almirón’s agent has been pushing the agenda too, admitting recently that he and his client couldn’t afford not to listen to an offer from River were it to arrive.

They’re hoping that Almirón’s lack of minutes for Newcastle this season plays a role, at least according to Paraguayan journalist Bruno Pont.

“Miguel Almirón has not played in 4 games, his last game was on October 27,” he recently pointed out, further strengthening the idea he is not in Newcastle’s plans moving forwards.

This is something River want to take advantage of, perhaps to drive down Almirón’s price given Newcastle rejected $20m from Charlotte in MLS not long ago.
