Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Matt O’Riley is on Borussia Dortmund’s summer transfer list, as they plan additions in key areas.

Sky Sports Germany report on the list of potential names at Dortmund this summer, including the 25-year-old.

Borussia Dortmund’s list

The website reports that Borussia Dortmund want to move as quickly as possible this summer to strengthen their squad in areas they consider as key.

The top priority is a creative, attacking play to succeed Julian Brandt. But a playmaker in defensive midfield would also be a welcome addition. One is expected to arrive at some point this summer.

While the budget is tighter than the German side would like, Dortmund believe they will have the funds to get deals done. New sporting director Ole Book is already ‘working intensively’ behind the scenes on new transfers.

O’Riley is one of the names on the list. Manager Niko Kovac is believed to find the central midfielder ‘intriguing’. And so, Book has enquired about the terms of a potential deal with Brighton.

He’s been backed by the club’s scouting department. They also find the 25-year-old Danish international ‘interesting’.

€15-20m required

At this moment in time, Dortmund believe any deal would cost between €15-20m. The midfielder is valued at the latter by the likes of Transfermarkt. But Brighton paid €29.5m for him in 2024 so are sure to push for an amount closer to that figure.

What their intentions with Matt O’Riley are this summer isn’t made clear. He returned to the club in February after a loan spell at Marseille and has only made six appearances in the Premier League this season.

Indeed, he’s sat on the bench as an unused substitute in their last three games. In fact, since returning from France he’s managed the grand sum of 25 minutes in total.

That would suggest he is not in Brighton’s plans moving forwards and there’s a deal there to be done for Dortmund if they press ahead.
