As William Saliba’s loan spell at Marseille comes to an end, his chances of staying at the French side now become a big topic in the French media.

Unlike Matteo Guendouzi, who moved from the Gunners to the Ligue 1 side with an option for a permanent deal, the agreement for the defender was different, as he’s set to return to London this summer.

Le10Sport writes about the situation today, first quoting Saliba himself, who tried to dodge the question about a potential stay at Marseille.

“The most important thing is to confirm this good season by qualifying for the Champions League. Then we’ll see,” said Saliba.

But Guendouzi made it clear that he’d like to have his teammate by his side for longer.

“I hope William stays here. He’s having a great season, he deserves everything that has happened to him. He’s a great guy outside, he’s had a lot of great games.”

Reports from France have been claiming that Saliba is likely to return to Arsenal, especially because Mikel Arteta wants him in his squad for the next season.

Now since the defender’s spell was good enough for much praise, it’d be natural for Marseille to try and keep him, at least on another loan spell. That’s why an attempt would be no surprise, regardless of how small their chances are.
