Like in the January transfer window, Idrissa Gana Gueye to Paris Saint Germain has been a rumour that won’t go away.
Except, unlike six months ago, it appears that the transfer will actually happen this summer. Thomas Tuchel has seemingly convinced sporting director Leonardo to make a move and the two clubs have been in active contact about a transfer.
Indeed, the last update suggested Gueye was a ‘step away’ from completing the move and would even be cutting short his holiday following the Africa Cup of Nations to secure his move to Paris.
There’s been some doubt in the French capital about the move, mostly given Gueye’s age and whether he’s actually a good enough signing to take PSG to the next level.
The doubt isn’t universal, though, and in a recent discussion on L’Equipe’s TV show, covered by Paris Fans, journalist Nabil Djellit was more than enthused about Gueye’s potential arrival.
“He’s a great player. When we closely follow the Premier League, in the last five seasons – ask scouts – in the three (with Kanté and Doucouré) who have recovered the most balls there is Idrissa Gueye,” he told the show.
“He’s deserved better than Everton for a very long time. Except that the English clubs are so rich that they do not want to sell to friends.
“He has a different profile. He’s able to project himself. We saw it during the CAN. For talking to him, he’s a smart, structured boy, he’s a positive leader.”
“For me, all the lights are green. Now if some people prefer to bling… anyway, it’s not with eleven bling-bling players that you win the Champions League.”
