Tottenham signed Destiny Udogie from Udinese in 2022 and allowed him to spend last season on loan with them.
The 20-year-old has enjoyed an impressive run since arriving at the north London club, and has started in all eight league games this season. His displays for Spurs helped him make his debut for Italy earlier this month.
Messaggero Veneto state the new Tottenham star’s ‘outburst’ at Wembley in Italy’s defeat to England didn’t surprise those who have followed his journey. After coming off the bench against Malta, he made his first start in London earlier this week.
The left-back’s performances this season were enough to convince Luciano Spalletti to include him in the national team squad.
Spalletti was appointed as Roberto Mancini’s successor in August and Messaggero Veneto say ‘it is incredible’ that the latter hadn’t even considered Udogie for Italy’s senior team, They say Udogie ‘deserved it already’, when he was at the Serie A side.
The outlet further claims the Tottenham defender is ‘terribly missed’ at Udinese, who have failed to replace him ‘adequately’. The Serie A side replaced him with Jordan Zemura in the last window and the report says that tactically he isn’t on the same level as Udogie.
Messaggero Veneto conclude by stating that Tottenham have long been well aware of the Italian’s qualities and potential, and this is why they decided to bet on him in 2022.
