Derby County are set to finalise a deal for FC Utrecht defender Derry Murkin before tonight’s deadline.
That’s according to journalist Marco Timmer. He reports that Derby are offering ‘a good fee’ for the left-back.
The journalist reports that Murkin is ‘on his way’ to the Championship side after they struck a deal with Utrecht for him. He makes no mention of the figure that the Rams are paying but insists it is a ‘good fee’ for the 26-year-old.
Murkin only joined the Dutch club in the summer, signing in a €1.2m deal from FC Schalke. It will be his first move to England, despite having been born in Colchester.
His career has instead taken a different route, seeing him come through the ranks in the Netherlands before establishing himself at FC Volendam. He made 97 appearances for the Dutch club before joining Schalke in 2023.
57 appearances in Germany followed before his move to Utrecht. He’s made 22 appearances this season. He’s only managed four starts in the Eredivisie, though, and it seems they’re happy to let him depart.
Now Derby are closing in on his signature. They already have Callum Elder and Craig Forsyth at left-back. But they’re now set to add Murkin to their ranks on deadline day.
Update: Voetbal International now report that the deal will be worth an initial €2m. That can reach €4m via bounses.
