Celtic‘s Maik Nawrocki will return to Celtic Park after a season-long loan spell at Hannover 96. Martin O’Neill’s side will have to make a decision on his future in the summer window.

The second division German club had agreed a purchase option with Celtic as part of the loan deal.

Earlier this month, Sport Witness covered claims from Germany that he was playing for his future.

The same source stated Hannover 96 would have made his stay permanent if they secured promotion to the Bundesliga.

Hannover 96 drew their last three matches and finished the season in fourth spot, missing out on promotion. Therefore, the buying option didn’t come into effect for the 25-year-old.

Celtic future needs sorting

Bild have a detailed report on players with expiring contracts at the 2. Bundesliga side.

This includes Celtic’s Maik Nawrocki, whose loan deal expires on June 30th. As of now, it’s unclear where he will play next season.

Earlier on Monday, players and support staff gathered in the dressing room so say goodbye to those leaving.

Hannover 96 presented ‘elaborately designed graphics’ to outgoing and loan players as a parting gift. The Celtic owned player also received this gift, but a stay isn’t entirely ruled out.

Bild state the German-born centre-back staying at the club ‘depends primarily on Celtic’. If it were down to Hannover 96, a fresh loan move could be a solution.

There’s no mention of Celtic’s stance or their plan for the defender and as things stand, Martin O’Neill’s side are in full control over his future.

Common sense dictates that Celtic would prioritise a sale.
