Sunderland defender Lamine Kone believes his time in England hasn’t been a failure, but he thinks some bad decisions were made by the club’s board.

This week it was confirmed the central defender would be joining Strasburg on loan for the season, and the French side have a right of redemption on the 29 year old.

Speaking to L’Equipe, Kone was asked about his time with Sunderland, and explained: “I don’t perceive it as a failure. I started well. After that, it was a lack of success, not the right choices on the part of the Sunderland executives. I had good times. I have no regrets.”

Kone has been linked with a move away from Sunderland throughout this summer transfer window, and there were even recent claims he could be heading to Turkey.

However, it seems the chance to return to France following his successful spell with Lorient proved too hard to turn down.

The player made over 20 league appearances for the Black Cats last season, but with their relegation to League One it always seemed likely he would leave this summer.

Kone still has 12 months left on his contract but it’s likely he’s played his last game for the club.
