Manchester United allowed Aaron Wan-Bissaka to complete a permanent move to West Ham United and replaced him with Noussair Mazraoui this summer.
The Moroccan right-back arrived at Old Trafford from Bayern Munich on August 13th. Prior to that, Inter Milan’s Denzel Dumfries was linked with Manchester United and Aston Villa.
Corriere dello Sport now state efforts were made to push Dumfries towards Manchester United in the last window, after he snubbed Aston Villa interest.
The Netherlands international has less than a year left on his deal. The 28-year-old was expected to leave the San Siro, but that didn’t happen because there were no convincing offers.
If it were up to the Dutchman, he would have joined the Red Devils as his ‘preference was Manchester United’.
It’s claimed the fullback’s agent and intermediaries made attempts to take the former PSV Eindhoven man to Old Trafford. Their efforts weren’t successful as Erik ten Hag’s side had other plans for the right-back position.
Corriere say Aston Villa made an approach, but Dumfries didn’t give his approval to joining them.
They add Dumfries is now set to sign a new deal at Inter and his renewal could be made official shortly.
