Maxim De Cuyper left Club Brugge for Brighton & Hove Albion in the summer window and has made four Premier League starts for the Seagullls.
The Belgium international spent his playing career in his own country before he moved to The Amex.
Play Sports in Belgium have had a chat with the new Brighton signing to discuss a few topics and Voetbal Krant have relayed his comments.
The left-back graduated from the Jupiler Pro League club’s academy and spent two years between 2021 and 2023 on loan at KVC Westerlo.
During his time at Club Brugge, the 24-year-old played in the Champions League, Europa League and even the UEFA Conference League, and aims to play in European football with Fabian Hürzeler’s side.
The fullback says this is what the Premier League club are aiming for, after missing out on Europe this season.
“Last season, they were close to securing a European spot. In the last three matches, they ultimately had to bow out. “I think the objective is definitely to compete for the European places,” he said.
Brighton have only one win from five league games and are currently 14th in the league. They can also qualify for Europe by winning cup competitions and will face Barnsley in the third round of the EFL Cup later this month.
The Belgian was also asked about English food, and there’s something he wants to avoid.
“I haven’t tried those beans yet. They really don’t look good. I’ll only eat them if it’s absolutely mandatory, but otherwise I’ll stay away from them,” De Cuyper explained.
