There is a ‘definite chance’ that Brentford will make a second attempt for PSV Eindhoven midfielder Joey Veerman in the January transfer window.

That’s according to Voetbal International, who report Brentford are likely to make a second attempt.

They tried to sign Veerman at the end of the summer transfer window. In fact, reports stated that they were willing to offer €27m to bring him in from Eindhoven.

PSV rejected the offer, though. Their technical director Earnest Stewart had made clear that interested clubs had to make bids before a certain deadline. Brentford only contacted them after this deadline and so their bid was rejected.

Voetbal International now report that ‘there’s a definite chance’ they will make a second offer for the midfielder in January. However, that might be PSV hoping rather than a reality.

Several reports in the Netherlands since the summer have made it clear Veerman isn’t performing well or living up to the €27m that Brentford offered either. There has been a clear tone of regret about the deal not going through.

Veerman himself may also be pushing things. The newspaper states he still hopes to leave PSV ‘after several transfer setbacks’. Whether the Dutch side will listen to January offers from Brentford or anyone else, remains to be seen.
