João Ferreira is set for a return to Watford this summer as SC Braga have decided against buying him permanently.
That’s according to Record and O Jogo, who say the 24-year-old will be returning from his loan spell at the Portuguese side.
Record report that Braga will not exercise the purchase option they agreed with Watford, worth €3.5m, when he signed on loan in the summer transfer window.
The right-back has been a regular for Braga this season but they have decided against a permanent move and will instead spend the summer looking for a replacement.
O Jogo say the same, reporting that Ferreira will not be a part of Braga’s plans for the 2025/26 season. They’ve made the decision on him despite not yet finding a replacement for Carlos Carvalhal, who has left his role as manager.
They don’t intend to use the purchase clause they negotiated with Watford last year, which was valued at €3.5m and would have included a four-year deal for the defender.
The decision was made as he’s not started a game for the Portuguese side since February. He’ll now return to Watford, where his current deal runs until 2027.
