During the January transfer market, Watford decided that signing Edo Kayembe from KAS Eupen was going to help them avoid relegation.

Spending just over £4m on the DR Congo international, the Hornets have put the 23-year-old to good use since, starting him in five of a possible eight games in the league so far.

Whether the defensive midfielder ends up having a long and successful spell with Watford at Vicarage Road remains to be seen, but it appears he wasn’t the only player they were eyeing up at Eupen in January.

That’s because his former teammate, Emmanuel Agbadou, explained to RTBF that he also had the chance to leave the Belgian side in the winter transfer window, with the outlet then revealing the Hornets as one of the clubs to have made an offer for him, which was reported at the time.

Speaking about Kayembe, he said: “That’s my brother! We miss Edo a lot, on the pitch and in the dressing room. He was a key piece for us, but I’m very happy because he realised his dream. I also had offers this winter (Gent, Club Brugge, Nice… and Watford), but I’d rather aim for the summer to better prepare my exit.

“I don’t want to rush anything. I was made to understand I was important to the club and I want to take part in keeping us up. After that, I dream of a transfer to Spain. Where? Real Madrid.”

Whether that ever happens remains to be seen, but since his dream isn’t to play in the Premier League like Kayembe’s seemingly was, the defender decided to stay put for the time being.

As for his now former teammate, he’ll be hoping that he can help Watford turn their form around under Roy Hodgson, with the club currently 19th after 26 games, three points from 17th placed Everton, who have two games in hand.
