Monday’s edition of Spanish newspaper Marca explained that over the weekend there’d been no advance on Aymen Abdennour moving from Valencia to Everton. After Peter Lim, Valencia’s owner, flew to England for talks on Friday, the weekend had not seen further movement.

Abdennour to Everton was ‘blocked’ because the final bid hadn’t been made.

Well, much better news for the transfer comes from Valencia’s Super Deporte on Monday afternoon. They report that Abdennour should now be ‘packing his bags’, because a move to Everton is closer.

It’s even stated that the Tunisian defender could travel to England in ‘the coming hours’. That’s a phrase used pretty much like mañana, although it may be literal this time.

Super Deporte don’t make clear how much of that information they’ve got from the British press, who they say have been talking about an impending medical for the player.

One step back, one step forward. But, once again, it’s clear from the Valencia media that the Spanish club are keen on this one going through.
