Leeds United are one of the clubs interested in a deal for Ajax full-back Noussair Mazraoui, who will be available on a free transfer this summer.

That’s according to Calciomercato, who say Jesse Marsch’s side are one of several competing for the fullback’s signature.

Mazraoui has established himself as one of the hottest prospects at Ajax over the last year with a series of impressive performances in the Eredivisie and Champions League.

Those performances have not gone unnoticed, particularly as his contract is set to expire in June of this year, meaning he is free to negotiate with clubs around Europe regarding a free transfer this summer.

Several clubs are all keen, and Calciomercato now throw Leeds into the mix, stating that the full-back is ‘liked’ by those in charge at Elland Road.

They are reportedly competing with Barcelona, Arsenal and AC Milan for his signature, although there is no mention of Leeds’ chance of pulling off the deal.

CM’s report is very brief, so we’ll have to take it with a pinch of salt at this point, particularly given the high-level competition in the race.

Now it should be made clear that Mazraoui is represented by Mino Raiola, and he has done business with Leeds before now, so that is something they could use to their advantage.

At the same time, it’s also been reported that Raiola is telling the suitors for Erling Haaland that they will also have to sign Mazraoui this summer.

This was something he had reportedly told Barcelona, so it’s easy to imagine that is a message he is conveying to Haaland’s other suitors as well.

In other words, those clubs could be forced to sign Mazraoui and thus take him away from Leeds in the process.

Whether that happens remains to be seen, of course, but at least for the minute, Leeds have put themselves in the picture.
