Burnley are ‘getting closer’ to the signing of Swedish defender Hjalmar Ekdal, according to reports on Thursday.
Outlet Aftonbladet claims that the player is on his way to England to sign for the Clarets, who seem to have reached a deal with his club Djurgarden.
Ekdal is said to be flying from Arlandia with his agent Marcus Allback. The transfer was confirmed by his club’s director Bosse Andersson, although Burnley’s name was not mentioned.
“He has been given permission to meet a club and was not involved in training today. I can only confirm that he is not taking the bus there, that he is going.”
Outlet Fotbollskanalen also reports Ekdal’s presence at the airport, quoting Andersson as well, and claiming Ekdal missed Djurgarden’s recent training sessions because of the move.
It was in January 2021 that the defender joined Djurgarden on a €70k transfer. His market value is now obviously bigger, with Transfermarket having it at €3.5m.
The Swedish media had already reported last week that the club were working on his sale, but they did not name Burnley at the time.
Now even though the move to the Clarets is seen as certain, local outlets are still to say how much the Championship side will pay for the move.
