West Ham United were close to a deadline day move for Stade Reims right-back Thomas Foket.
That’s according to journalist Sacha Tavolieri, who says the defender ‘almost joined’ the Hammers.
David Moyes’ side were busy on the final day of the window attempting to bolster their defence, particularly as Craig Dawson was linked with a move away.
They were also keen on adding competition at right-back, with a move for Manchester United’s Aaron Wan Bissaka mooted but never coming to fruition.
Tavolieri explains that Foket was another name on their list, and West Ham were ‘willing to offer’ €3.5m for the right-back who would have signed a three-year option with an option of an extra year at the London Stadium.
However, the move was rejected by Reims, who demanded €6m for their man; a figure it seems West Ham were not willing to match at the end of the window.
That leaves Foket in France for now and Moyes working with Vladimir Coufal and Ben Johnson as his right-back options for the time being.
