Ousmane Dembélé’s contract at Barcelona expires in 2022 and Newcastle United’s interest in the player is now getting continuous attention from the Catalan media.

On November 26th, Mundo Deportivo reported the Magpies have made an ‘astronomical proposal’ to the winger.

It includes an annual salary of €15m plus an additional €15m as a signing on bonus, to join them as a free agent next summer. These claims were backed by Sport last week.

When approached by the Spanish club’s leaders, the 24-year-old has stressed he wants to continue at the Camp Nou, but that stance is not repeated when they hold talks with his agent.

Journalist Gerard Romero stated the latest offer made by Barca will see the Frenchman’s salary rise to €11m gross and €7.5m net without variables. Mundo Deportivo have relayed these claims in today’s edition of the newspaper and provide their own information on the player.

The former Borussia Dortmund man must now decide between Barca’s latest offer or from the proposals he has received from elsewhere, including one from the Magpies. If he joins another club after this season, he will be eligible to collect a ‘transfer bonus’.

At the Camp Nou, they have noticed ‘two aspects that are not flattering’. The first one is the delaying tactic employed by the attacker’s representative and the second one is related to Dembélé’s dependency on his agent.

The representative is of the belief it’s best for his client to leave Barca and look for a new club next summer, while collecting a signing on bonus.

Newcastle’s offer, for now, is much superior to the latest proposal made by Barcelona. Xavi’s side want to know Dembélé’s decision soon. They had set the deadline of December 15th, meaning this is the ‘decisive week’ for him to make a decision on his future.
