Marseille’s interest in West Ham star Dimitri Payet is no longer a secret. The Ligue 1 club want to take the 29-year-old back to France, but West Ham have reportedly set a price tag of €40m.
According to L’Equipe, Marseille’s president Jacques-Henri Eyraud and sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta are expected in London to negotiate a deal with West Ham.
Marseille have reportedly already made an offer of €22m plus €3m in bonuses, and they’re expected to submit a new offer.
L’Equipe say West Ham have been reluctant to sell the player, but will now be open to Payet’s departure should they get the right offer for him. There are reports of an unnamed Chinese club showing interest in Payet in recent days, but the Frenchman wants to return to his former club.
West Ham are already looking for a replacement, which could be a bit difficult in the January transfer window. As things stand, there is still a long way to go for Payet’s exit from West Ham, as both the clubs must first agree on a transfer fee.
L’Equipe say Marseille are travelling to London today and that the meeting with West Ham will be ‘decisive’.
