Rafael Leão’s father has received a very direct question regarding a potential Chelsea move.
That happened in an interview the player’s dad gave to Portuguese newspaper Record. There he had a lot to say about the midfielder’s inclusion in the World Cup squad, the great season he’s been having and what’s to come in his career.
With the outlet sounding very curious about what will happen to Leão, they first put forward a long question where they mentioned the recent rumours of a renewal with Milan, a transfer to Chelsea and the solution for their legal battle with Sporting.
“The answer is: we are working on it,” said Antonio Leão.
Then Record insisted on it, asking Rafael Leão’s father if that means he’s signing a new deal with Milan or joining Chelsea.
“We are dealing with it, because Rafael Leão has a contract that ends in 2024. Until that date, we are dealing with all of that. Without Chelsea, without Barcelona, without Real Madrid, we are dealing with that.”
His dad was also asked if Leão’s wish is to say in Italy after the end of his contract in 2024.
“Rafael loves being in Italy. He has an affection for the Italians that the Portuguese don’t have for him. He won the trophy for best player in Serie A not because he’s handsome, but because… he’s the best.”
Chelsea have indeed been one of the strongest names in the race for Leão, even though it’s known his signing won’t be easy. Newspaper Gazzetta Dello Sport recently claimed that even if the Blues bid over €100m, that will be rejected by Milan, who continue to work on his renewal.
