Despite being one of the options for Real Madrid after Thibaut Courtois’ injury, David De Gea saw compatriot Kepa Arrizabalaga chosen instead, leaving him still without a club after his exit from Manchester United.
The goalkeeper lost his spot under Erik ten Hag after it was made clear the Dutchman wanted André Onana, and the Spaniard ran down his contract and chose not to sign the lower extension offer put in front of him by the Red Devils.
This means he is still a free agent despite some leagues, including the Premier League, already starting, but Bayern Munich are now considering a move for him, according to Sport 1.
They reveal the former Manchester United goalkeeper is ‘coming into focus’ in Bavaria, as they continue to seek an option while Manuel Neuer finishes his recovery from injury.
It’s said that ‘talks are underway’ with the 32-year-old, although they have encountered an issue everyone wanting to get De Gea were going to face: his ‘high salary demands’.
After years of being handsomely paid at Manchester United, the Spaniard wants similar compensation from his next club, and it’s added by Sport 1 that clubs in Saudi Arabia are also keen, where ‘money is not an issue’.
That’s something Bayern need to think about, because unless they pay him, he’s likely to go somewhere else at this stage.
