Ajax on Saturday took the step of publicly explaining Davinson Sanchez isn’t for sale, whilst also confirming to the Dutch media that Tottenham Hotspur interest is real, and official steps have been taken.

As Sport Witness explained at the time, Ajax’s ‘not for sale’ didn’t really seem like the final answer, and it almost felt the Dutch club were fishing for better offers, whether they be from Tottenham or elsewhere.

Real Madrid and Barcelona were even dragged in by De Telegraaf, and whilst Ajax wanted their fans to know there was a tough stance against a transfer, it wasn’t too hard to believe the pain threshold for a transfer had nearly been reached.

Sanchez was then kept out of Ajax’s match on Saturday night, with suggestions in the Netherlands it was due to a possible transfer, with Tottenham still the club being mentioned.

Ajax’s Nick Viergever has since been quoted by De Telegraaf, via Voetbal Zone, as saying: “I have no idea whether he’s gone, but I think he’s busy with a transfer.”

The not for sale stance doesn’t seem to be convincing Ajax players, so it’s unlikely to be convincing Tottenham.
