Bayern Munich’s interest in Newcastle United star Anthony Gordon has come via a secret data company which has identified him as the perfect addition this summer. However, Tottenham could have an indirect say in the transfer.
Sport BILD report on Bayern’s interest in the 25-year-old today and how, his underlying metrics are key to the whole affair.
Newcastle United want €92m
The newspaper again explains that a meeting took place in Munich two weeks ago between Anthony Gordon’s agents and Bayern bosses. Internally, the meeting was considered a success.
The Newcastle United star’s representatives clearly indicated that he is open to a move to Munich. However, Bayern have been made aware that it won’t be financially easy to get Gordon this summer.
Newcastle, according to reports, want as much as €92m for the winger. Part of that is because they owe 15% to former club Everton. Such a fee would be difficult for Max Eberl, Bayern’s director of sport, to get approved by their supervisory board.
That board have previously indicated that a €60m arrival would be sanctioned. Thus, they are likely to reject the current valuation outright.
Data fits for Bayern
Max Eberl will push hard as Gordon ‘perfectly fits’ the profile he’s looking for. That profile has been worked out with a secret data company who he has worked with for ten years.
He uses them to profile potential signings and if they’ll fit. It was already used last summer for the signing of Michael Olise.
Bayern want players who fit the ‘high-energy’ style but can also contribute defensively. Gordon fits the bill. The data shows he offers a strong physical presence and is able to engage in intense physical duels throughout games. The feeling is that he’s a good fit all round.
Tottenham help
But money talks, and how much Bayern will have to spend is yet to be worked out. One part will be dependent on player sales.
On that front, the hope remains that Tottenham exercise their €30m purchase option for João Palhinha. That has been a huge question mark over it given Spurs’ current fight to stay in the Premier League.
There are also other players to be sold and boost the coffers, potentially providing funds for the move for Anthony Gordon.
Qualification for the Champions League final would also secure another €18.5m. While winning the competition would increase that total to €25m. So, there’s extra incentive for the German’s to knock out PSG on Wednesday evening.
Any extra funds will come in handy for the pursuit of Gordon, who the data says could be the ideal addition this summer.
