Last week, we saw the Argentine media shared their big expectation about the possibility of Claudio Echeverri starting for River Plate against Boca Juniors.

With the midfielder already secured by Manchester City, this game would be decisive for the English side to pay a €500k bonus and confirm that he’s only making the move to Europe in December.

Those were both clauses related to the youngster playing a certain amount of games.

Echeverri has been showing big potential at River Plate, and as Olé now analyses the game, they point out how good he was in Sunday’s match.

Even though Boca Juniors won 3-2, the outlet highlights that the youngster had been of big importance for the Millonario, and his substitution was deeply felt by the team.

‘With the presence of Claudio Echeverri, River’s attack was one. With his departure, a very different one. El Diablito, more and more uninhibited and willing to be in charge of the offensive initiative, played a direct role in River Plate’s lead with a transfer and assist to Miguel Borja and was considered one of the team’s high points,’ says Olé, also mentioning the money Manchester City will now be paying.

‘The €500k that his presence secured for the club as the first bonus from his sale, in this case, does not even serve as a consolation.’

A fever the previous night meant Echeverri was taken off, and the manager didn’t feel confident to let him play 90 minutes.

Olé gave River Plate’s squad an average rating of 4.2. Echeverri had the highest one, with 6, and the newspaper pointed out his strong features, giving Manchester City fans more reasons to be excited with the signing.

‘Clever, daring and unstoppable in every attack. Personality to carry the ball. The team felt his departure.’
