Sheffield Wednesday manager Danny Röhl is doing a mini-tour of the German media at the moment, which looks like an effort to build his profile and tempt RB Leipzig into taking a gamble on him.

He’s pretty much confirmed he’s set to leave the Owls, saying he’s reached an agreement with the club’s owner regarding his future. No specific details were shared on that, but he’s a man talking like he’s free to choose where he’ll manage next season.

Röhl has been linked with multiple clubs in England, including two of those relegated from the Premier League this season, Southampton and Leicester City. It’s the Saints who have been the subject of the strongest links, and he’s talked about both of those sides along with Ipswich Town.

The Sheffield Wednesday manager has been impressed by Southampton, Leicester City and Ipswich Town and was left surprised to see all three relegated from the Premier League.

Röhl explained on a Kicker podcast: “Yes, in general, I have to say, the promoted teams last season, Leicester, Ipswich, and Southampton, it was a bit of a surprise to me that they went straight back down, because they had brutal quality.

“So, in Leicester, also in Ipswich, in Southampton, and especially Leicester and Southampton, with their Premier League backgrounds, who had been at that level for many, many years, I wouldn’t have expected them to be back in the Championship so quickly. But the season has also shown that it will be brutally difficult. Of course, you have teams like that now, and it will probably be the same in the future.

“Fulham also needed two or three years to actually stay in the league. Of course, you have that parachute in the Championship if you get relegated, and if you do it smartly. And you might also factor in direct relegation, but you already have a team that can then get promoted again straight away. I think you have a good chance then.”

Does that mean he’d fancy his chances at getting a relegated side back to the Premier League at the first time of asking? Probably, Danny Röhl certainly isn’t lacking confidence, however it does feel like he’ll be aiming higher first.
