It’s fair to say that Denmark is keeping a close eye on Tottenham Hotspur after Thomas Frank’s departure in January.
The country was excited when Frank was given a ‘big job’ last summer following his success at Brentford. They were certainly rooting for him and, often among his biggest champions.
Well, now he’s been sacked, they’re keeping an even closer eye on proceedings. And Francis Dickoh has noticed something that should have Spurs fans very concerned. Tipsbladet have relayed his comments today.
He, like most of us, was watching as Tottenham took on Crystal Palace on Thursday evening. Igor Tudor’s side headed into that game knowing defeat could be disastrous.
Crystal Palace disaster
And it proved to be, as a 3-1 defeat and a Micky van de Ven sending off left them teetering on the brink. Spurs now sit one point outside the relegation zone, without a win in 11 and with no signs of improvement under Tudor.
Even more worrying is the fact that those around them are picking up points. West Ham won this week to close the gap, while Nottingham Forest secured an unlikely point against Manchester City.
Spurs, with five defeats in their last five, seem unlikely to pick up similar results any time soon. There was certainly no positive signs from the defeat to Palace. And Dickoh believes that’s what should concern them most.
“The defeat to Crystal Palace was a low point for Tottenham,” he said.
“The team collapsed, and it is worrying when the club has already made changes to the coaching staff. One can fear that Tottenham has not hit rock bottom yet, with this spectre of relegation looming.
“The clubs around Tottenham seem to have confidence. And in the game, itself, it looks like the other teams are dying with their boots on and are competitive. Tottenham is in a different place right now.”
Tottenham need to fight
The stats certainly don’t make for pretty reading for Tottenham. While they’re bottom of the form table, West Ham have only lost one of their last five. Forest have two draws and three defeats in five.
Their futures will, though, likely be determined by Tottenham’s clash with Nottingham Forest later this month. They also then take on Leeds, who are two points ahead in 15th, at the beginning of May.
Given their current form, that could end up being the big decider. If, of course, they are still in the fight at that point. Tudor needs to help them find that fight first.
