Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has made it clear he will not wait forever for Antonio Conte to sign a new deal at the club.
That’s according to Tuttosport, who say that Tottenham have set a January deadline for the Italian to make a decision about his future.
Conte’s current deal is set to expire in the summer, although there’s an option for a further season, and while Spurs are keen to extend his stay in London beyond that point, he is yet to commit to a new deal.
That has led to speculation about his future, particularly with Juventus continuing to struggle under Massimiliano Allegri.
He’s facing increasing pressure at the Italian giants; with the belief it is now a case of when not if he is sacked and a new manager brought in.
That’s led to plenty of talk about Conte, who is shining once more with Tottenham and earning himself plenty of admirers in his homeland as a result.
He would be the man most would want Juventus to hire and his potential availability would make him an attractive prospect for Juventus, who would be forced to pay Allegri a sizeable sum should they sack him.
Tuttosport now cover Conte’s situation at Tottenham, explaining that he has ‘not made clear’ whether his long-term future will be at the club.
He ‘continues to postpone’ any talk of a renewal and is ‘taking his time’ making a decision while continuing to take a ‘closer look’ at things in Europe and particularly Italy.
A return to Juventus would have been an ‘unthinkable’ option at one point but the stars are seemingly aligning for that to happen and there is a feeling he could be tempted. For the minute, though, he simple wants to return to the ‘sweet feeling of being able to win’.
That’s fine for Tottenham if he is doing it with them but they don’t want to be left sitting on their hands and Daniel Levy and his staff have made it clear they ‘will not wait for him forever’.
Tuttosport say ‘January is the deadline set by the club’ for a decision to be made.
