Christian Eriksen’s contract at Tottenham Hotspur will run down at the end of the next season and without a renewal rumours are inevitable.
In today’s edition of Spanish newspaper AS, they once again look at the 26-year-old’s contractual situation, while they have also managed to get comments from his agent.
Publicly, Martin Schoots refused to provide any update on his client’s latest situation at the north London club.
He said, “I would prefer not to comment on contracts and transfers. Christian would like to focus on his football. That and his qualities have taken him to this very high level. We’ll see what the future brings.”
However, AS have provided few key details and it’s no surprise to guess that these updates came from the Denmark international’s representative.
It’s mentioned that it is highly unlikely the player will leave in January, but his entourage are said to have told AS they’re ‘not optimistic’ and agreeing a new deal with Spurs is ‘very, very difficult’.
Real Madrid are still interested in the former Ajax man and they could be provided an opportunity to sign him at the end of the season, if Eriksen doesn’t renew by then.
For this reason, the Premier League club’s chairman Daniel Levy ‘runs the risk’ of losing the Tottenham star and those close to Eriksen value him around between €56m and €84m.
AS also mentions it would be an honour for the key Spurs star to play for Los Blancos and that he sees Real Madrid as a very big club.
It’s now down to Tottenham as to how they react to resolve Eriksen’s situation.
Spurs won’t be thrilled the player’s agent is speaking to the Spanish media.
