Crystal Palace have ruled out signing Christantus Uche in the summer transfer window, creating financial problems for Getafe.
Estadio Deportivo report that the Spanish side had been hoping for the €18m they agreed last summer. Now they won’t be getting it, so it’s causing issues.
Crystal Palace abandon transfer
The newspaper reports information from journalist Ángel García. He states that Crystal Palace have decided definitively that they will now be buying Christantus Uche on a permanent basis in the summer. The forward will be forced to return to Spain this summer.
That’s bad news for the Madrid club. They had considered the permanent sale as crucial to balancing their books. Instead, they now have a gap of nearly €9m in their salary cap.
That situation will prevent the team from registering any new signings in La Liga until they get their finances in order. Getafe had not planned for Uche to return this summer, despite reports for months making it clear Crystal Palace weren’t keen.
His departure last summer was driven by a dual need; to give him playing time in the Premier League and generate a future sale to ‘ease the financial burden’. Neither of those things have happened.
Getafe summer problems
With the expected income from Crystal Palace not materialising, Getafe’s situation has changed drastically.
They now have little room for manoeuvre in the summer, and the club must focus on adjusting their wage bill if they want to make any moves.
La Liga regulations leave no room for improvisation. Without financial stability, no new signings will be possible. It’s a significant setback for manager José Bordalás, who had designed his squad without considering Christantus Uche would return.
He now has to decide whether to integrate the 22-year-old or find a new destination for him this summer. He won’t be joining Crystal Palace permanent either way. And that’s causing problems that now need to be solved.
