Crystal Palace are now ‘waiting’ to sign Daichi Kamada from Lazio, with the player’s refusal to sign a new deal at the Italian club pushing him closer to Selhurst Park.
That’s according to Sport Mediaset, who say all signs now point towards the Premier League for the midfielder.
The Italian outlet reports that Kamada has taken the surprising decision not to sign a new deal with the Serie A side, electing to ignore an option to extend his deal, which expired on May 30th.
He’s now, instead, eyeing a free transfer elsewhere, with the club’s sporting director Angelo Mariano Fabiani, revealing his decision late on Thursday.
“He did not exercise the option (of extension, expiring on May 30) and there will not be a new agreement,” he is quoted as saying at ‘the end of a brief meeting’.
Sport Mediaset say that is because Kamada ‘would already be ready’ to land in the Premier League, where they are ‘waiting for him at Crystal Palace’.
The Eagles have been linked with a move for the Japanese international for several months, with reports making it clear that Oliver Glasner would like a reunion with the player after their time together at Eintracht Frankfurt.
They’ve been increasing the pressure as his contract come towards its end and no new agreement was found with Lazio and a report yesterday indicated they had made a ‘rich offer’ to tempt him away from the Italian side.
That now appears to have worked, with the midfielder refusing new terms and Lazio seemingly giving up, paving the way for Crystal Palace to get their man.
