Crystal Palace have promised Jean Philippe Mateta he can leave this summer if they receive an important offer for him.
That’s according to Corriere dello Sport, who say the striker has a ‘farewell promise’ on the table and that is potentially fuelling the links to Napoli.
Reports throughout this week have indicated that Napoli are already in talks to sign Mateta, who has been flourishing since the arrival of Oliver Glasner at Crystal Palace earlier this year.
Those reports indicated that he’s being eyed up as a replacement for Victor Osimhen, who is expected to leave Napoli this summer for a big European team after several years establishing himself as one of the best strikers in Europe.
He’s a player that Napoli have followed for a while, even before they bet everything on Osimhen, and so the interest is not that surprising.
At the moment, though, he is simply another profile on the ever-growing list of options the Italian side are looking at to replace Osimhen this summer.
In other words, they’re not actively exploring the deal or pushing for it at this moment in time, at least as far as Corriere are concerned.
With that promise from Palace on the table, though, expect to hear more about Mateta in the coming weeks, particularly once Osimhen’s future becomes clear.
Of course, this is just Corriere dello Sport claiming Mateta has a promise, and given his hints about an exit that information is perhaps coming from an agent.
