Towards the end of the last window, L’Equipe reported Jean-Philippe Mateta was keen on returning to the Bundesliga but Crystal Palace turned down 1.FSV Mainz 05’s €7m bid for him.

The former Mainz man could have another opportunity to return to Germany in January, if a report from Bild is to be believed.

It’s said Eintracht Frankfurt are searching for a new striker and have identified the Crystal Palace player as one of the candidates.

Randal Kolo Muani was leading their attack last season but was sold to Paris Saint-Germain for €95m on deadline day of the summer window. The Bundesliga side haven’t yet replaced him and have identified a few candidates for the winter market.

Eintracht Frankfurt sporting director Markus Krösche is searching the market and the idea is to finalise at least one or two candidates in the next two weeks. The Crystal Palace striker’s name is well known at the club due to his past in Germany.

In fact, the report says Mateta would fill the void left by Kolo Muani and the Eagles could demand €10m to let go of him in January.

That may be an optimistic price idea from the German club.

Roy Hodgson has mainly used Mateta as a substitute this season as he’s managed three goals and three assists from 13 games.
