Spanish coach José Bordalás ‘hopes to find a good offer outside of Spain’ after deciding to leave Getafe this summer. And that may be of great interest to Crystal Palace.
Marca report on the Getafe coach and say his departure from the club is now a ‘reality’. According to them, he has turned down multiple offers to renew and will now be departing in the summer.
Strained relations
The newspaper explains that José Bordalás has made it clear to the Spanish club that he could not continue with them under the current conditions.
The club have been burdened by financial problems for years. This season has been the same, with several key players sold or loaned out to just balance the books. One of these, Christantus Uche, has spent the season sat on the bench at Crystal Palace.
His frustration with this situation has grown throughout the campaign. He has also aired this frustration in press conferences, leading to a worsening of his professional relationship with president Ángel Torres.
Now he intends to leave, despite a contract offer on the table since last summer. That would have seen him renew until 2028. Instead, he’s looking at offers elsewhere.
Indeed, Marca report that Bordalás recently changed agents to YouFirst. He, according to them, ‘hopes to find a good offer outside of Span’.
Crystal Palace interest
That should interest Crystal Palace, who reports have linked consistently this year.
A report back in December explained that José Bordalás was the leading candidate to replace Oliver Glasner at Crystal Palace this summer.
Those claims continued to grow that month, with Getafe’s president doing his best to shoot them down. By January, though, José Bordalás was keeping things alive with very clear messages in his press conferences.
Now he’s set to be a free agent, and Crystal Palace are yet to name a replacement for Oliver Glasner. We’d suggest that may be a case of the stars aligning a little too well to be ignored completely.
