Crystal Palace and Newcastle United are both keen on signing Marc Casado from Barcelona, reports Mundo Deportivo.

The 18-year-old is a flexible midfielder and is currently playing for the Catalan club’s Juvenil A side.

Crucially, his contract at the Camp Nou expires at the end of the current season, meaning his future is very much in doubt. Mundo Deportivo explain the youngster’s desire is to renew his contract and make a successful career for himself at Barcelona.

That renewal hasn’t come, and there’s no explanation why.

The report says Crystal Palace and Newcastle United are watching the player’s situation closely, and the two Premier League clubs are presented as being the best placed to get the midfielder as a free-agent in the summer window.

Casado has even trained with the first team under Xavi Hernandez, so it’s a puzzle why he’s not been renewed yet.

Mundo Deportivo don’t explain this, but both Crystal Palace and Newcastle would have to secure a work permit for the player, given he’d no longer automatically be able to work in the UK after Brexit.
